As part of our ongoing vetting process, we need to run regular checks with external agencies. These checks include the Education Workforce Council for Wales (EWC).

EWC Registration

In order for the EWC to confirm an applicant’s registration, they need specific pieces of information:

  • Name

  • Date of Birth

  • National Insurance number (NI)

  • Teacher Reference Number (TRN)

To ensure we carry out our checks correctly, it would be helpful if all the information below is entered correctly and as early as possible during the application process.

  • Name

When you enter your name into your profile, please use the first name and surname you are known as on your legal documents and have used to register with the EWC. Please ensure you enter the names correctly as you will be unable to change these once you have saved your details. Also, if the names are entered incorrectly, we will not be able to find you on the EWC registration list and this will delay your application process.

  • Date of Birth

When you enter your date of birth, please ensure you enter the correct digits in the correct order i.e. day/month/year. It should follow the format of

_ _ /_ _ /_ _ _ _.

So, for example, if you were born on the 9th December 1968, you would enter 09/12/1968

  • National Insurance Number (NI)

The EWC requires your NI number when we run registration confirmation checks.

You will need to enter your NI number into your profile in order for your documents to be approved. If your NI number is not entered, it will delay your application process.

The link below will take you to the HMRC website. Here you can find out where to find your NI number and how to apply for one if you haven’t got one.

  • Teacher Reference Number (TRN)

If you are a teacher, the EWC requires your TRN number when we run registration confirmation checks.

Please could you enter your TRN to your profile, as early as possible in your application process, to avoid any delays in approving your documents and setting you live.

The link below will take you to the HMRC website. Here you can find out where to find your Teacher Reference Number and how you can use it.

If you are applying as a Teaching Assistant, Higher Level Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor, you do not need a TRN, so please leave this section blank.
