The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. It replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

Candidates must already have or must acquire an Enhanced DBS certificate with Children's Barred list check to be considered for work through Teacher Booker.

We advise all our teachers to keep their Enhanced DBS certificate up to date by registering it with the Update Service.

  • The cost of a new Enhanced DBS check via our 3rd party provider, Verifile, is approximately £62. The cost of acquiring a new DBS certificate is borne by the teacher. The process typically takes a few working days, which is significantly faster than many other DBS check providers. Applying candidates will have to attend an in-person interview at Teacher Booker offices for vetting staff to check their identity documents in-person.  If candidates do not submit an acceptable DBS certificate at registration, we will ask whether they'd like us to set them up with our DBS check provider. There is no obligation to use our DBS check provider, but candidates' registrations will not proceed until we receive an acceptable DBS or confirmation that a new check is underway.

  • Enhanced DBS certificates can be sourced via other providers as well, and we can accept a DBS acquired through any provider. We use Verifile because of their simple application process and fast turnaround. We do not take any commission or fee on the processing of a new DBS.

  • Enhanced DBS certificates teachers may have that were acquired through other Agencies, Umbrellas, schools, LEAs or other bodies are acceptable provided they are on the Update Service or were issued within our specified timeframe.

  • When a new Enhanced DBS certificate is acquired, registration on the Update Service must be made within 19 days. Teacher Booker will clearly express the benefits of registration to the candidate, but it remains the responsibility of the candidate to register for the Update Service.

  • Registration on the Update Service costs £13 per year and means a teacher will not have to buy a new DBS again. We highly recommend this service.
