Email Notifications on Screen for Apple and Android

Both Apple and Android devices have options for configuring notifications to ensure emails pop up on your screen.

Enabling Email Notifications on iOS (Apple Devices)

Open Settings

  • Tap the Settings icon on your home screen.

Go to Notifications

  • Scroll down and select Notifications.

Find the Mail App

  • In the Notifications menu, scroll to find Mail and tap on it.

  • If you use multiple email accounts, select the specific account you want notifications for.

Enable Notifications

  • Turn on Allow Notifications at the top.

  • Set Alert Style to Banners or Alerts to make emails pop up on the screen.

  • Adjust Sound and Badges if you’d like an audible alert or an icon on the app.

Customise Notification Style (Optional)

  • Choose how you want notifications to appear:

    • Lock Screen: Shows email notifications when your device is locked.

    • Notification Center: Displays email notifications in the pull-down notification shade.

    • Banners: Shows a banner notification that briefly pops up at the top of your screen when unlocked.

Enabling Email Notifications on Android Devices

Open Settings

  • Tap the Settings app, usually found in your app drawer or on the home screen.

Go to Apps & Notifications

  • Select Apps & notifications or simply Notifications, depending on your device.

Locate Your Email App

  • Scroll through the list or use the search bar to find the Gmail app (or your preferred email app).

  • Tap on the app to enter its notification settings.

Enable Notifications

  • Toggle on Show notifications to ensure email notifications are allowed.

  • Tap on Notification categories or Email notifications (this may vary by device) to see more options.

Customise Notification Style

  • Pop-up Notifications: Some Android versions allow you to enable a pop-up that brings the notification to the screen immediately.

  • Sound and Vibration: Set custom sounds or enable vibration for email notifications.

  • Lock Screen Notifications: Make sure On the lock screen is set to Show all notification content if you want emails visible when your device is locked.
